Maximianus, co-emperor with Diocletian, ruled from 286 to 305 CE as part of the Tetrarchy, a system designed to bring stability to the Roman Empire through shared power. Assigned to govern the Western Empire, Maximianus defended Roman territories against Germanic tribes and rebellious forces, notably quelling the uprising of Carausius in Britain.
