History
Around 320 BCE, Kyme in Aeolis was a prominent Greek city on the western coast of Asia Minor, known for its rich agricultural land and strategic coastal location. Often called the “mother of cities” for founding multiple colonies, Kyme was among the largest and most influential Aeolian cities. By this time, the city had experienced Persian control but had gained more independence following Alexander the Great’s conquests, falling under the influence of the Diadochi (his successors), who sought control over Asia Minor.
