History
Around 300 BCE, Alexandreia was a growing and strategically significant city. Originally named Antigonia Troas after its founder, Antigonus I Monophthalmus, one of Alexander the Great's successors, the city was later renamed Alexandreia Troas in honor of Alexander. Its location near the Dardanelles and opposite the Greek mainland made it an essential port and a bridge between Asia Minor and Europe, facilitating trade and military movement.
